Tips & Tricks on How to Get Your Soccer Scholarship for College

Think it’s easy to get one of those scholarships so you can get a worry free education? You might want to think again.

After all, a lot of people are after the same thing, and competition is fierce. In addition, it’s important to realize that the game of soccer is treated as an equivalency sport at the collegiate level.

What does this really mean? It means that your college could divide the available money for their soccer scholarships based on how many players they really want to offer their scholarships to.

So you might not get a full scholarship to play soccer. You may get a partial and have to supplement your education with money for other sources.

The money can also vary – one year might be really good, another year might mean you need to get loans or even a part time job.

Do Not Rely on Your Skills Only

Many good soccer players only rely on their soccer skills alone and hope that it is enough in order to pay for their college education. However, the colleges will always reward you if your school results look good.Plus, you may even end up scoring a scholarship in another avenue. For example, a 4.0 GPA and a focus on social psychology might earn you a scholarship for a social worker degree.

The same could be said for someone majoring in law, or even business. So, ultimately, a successful academic high school career could lead you to more than just a scholarship in soccer.

If you have good grades, you can go places outside of the world of soccer. Use this as a backup in case you really don’t get picked for a professional team. Not everyone will get in – even if they have good ability. There are simply not enough spaces to go around.

When To Apply For a Soccer Scholarship

The best time to apply for a soccer scholarship is directly after your high school years. Keep in mind that only players between 18-24 are allowed to compete within the college leagues.

Coaches prefer to work with younger players as this makes it possible to develop players for a longer period of time. So, the earlier you apply to the college, the more chances that you will make it to the top.
