The Main Causes of Injuries Related to Soccer

Have you ever asked yourself the following question: What causes the most common soccer injuries? Don’t worry, you are not alone!

I used to reflect over this issue a lot. While working on my site, I came up with an idea to write a guide on this issue

Now, let’s take a look at some of the common causes of injuries in soccer…

No Fear

Don’t be scared to jump into a physical duel with your opponent. You should always run into this type of situations with full power because this is the only way for you to protect yourself.

If you hesitate, I can assure you that it will hurt much more and you might also get injured sooner or later.

That might sound like the very opposite of what you should do, but don’t worry about it. Make sure that you focus on the task at hand – winning the duel!

Duels

When facing your opponents in head-to-head duels, you should try to have one of your arms in front of your face.

By doing this, you will avoid getting your face hit by your opponent’s head. This measure will decrease the risk of getting broken jaws, nose, teeth and more.

Body Language

Study your opponent’s body language. By doing this, you will be able to predict your opponent’s moves.

For example, an opponent who wants to tackle you will often run quickly and then throw himself on the ground, with his kick foot pointing towards the direction of the ball.

In order to avoid a tackle, you should either increase your speed or slow down. Let your opponent slide past you.

The Field

You should always examine the field before choosing which shoes to wear. For example, soccer shoes with aluminum studs are ideal for wet fields.

However, using them on hard fields is a bad idea because they may cause you to trip and destroy the ligaments of your knee.

This type of injury could keep you off the field for 6 months or more. Choosing the right pair of shoes to play with is a must if you want to avoid serious injuries.

Physical Shape

Being in a poor physical shape is another cause of soccer related injuries! You could compare this to showing up for an exam at school without knowing the subject.

The result is pretty obvious, don’t you agree? So, being in a good physical shape is a must if you want to keep yourself away from serious injuries.

Body Signals

As a soccer player, you should always listen to your body. If you feel pain somewhere, you should carefully weigh whether you should play the game or not.

Keep in mind that it is better to rest for one week rather get an injury that will keep you off the field for several months.

Wrong Equipment

Wearing the wrong equipment could also lead to serious injuries. I mentioned before that you should always examine the field before choosing the pair of shoes that you will use.

It is also very important to wear the right kind of shin guards. You will often see players wearing small shin guards just because they feel clumsy wearing a bigger sized one.

Don’t make the same mistake because sooner or later these players will get seriously injured.

Always make sure that your shin guards provide enough cover and that these are the ones approved by your soccer association.

Too Early of a Comeback

Making a fast comeback is also one of the most common reasons for new injuries.

I know that standing and watching a game while being injured is one of the most painful things you can experience as soccer player.

This is where many players make a big mistake – that is, to make an early comeback. An incomplete recovery is like asking for more problems.

Simply put, a proper recovery period is a must if you want to get rid of your injury in due time.

I had a back strain injury few years ago and I did an early comeback. I started to juggle the ball and performed few basic soccer skills… until I fired a volley at the goal.

The pain afterwards cannot be described and it resulted in another 3 months off the field!

Summary

These are the most common causes when it comes to soccer injuries. By following them, you should be able to avoid common injuries but also be able to plan your rehab properly!
