Have you ever been put on a soccer position by your coach that you’ve never played on before? Well, I know how it feels and first time you may feel completely lost and play really bad!
Even if it looks pretty easy from the side I can ensure you that playing on a new position can be pretty tough.
So, what measurements can you take in order to adapt yourself quickly to a completely new position? Well, in this article you I will present 3 thing that will help you out with that.
During Practice
To prepare yourself for a position that you’ve never played on before you should start by testing it out during your practice.
One important thing you need to understand is that you always need to try out new things during your practice before adapting them in your games.
Also, ask your coach if he can arrange specific drills in order to prepare you better for a particular position.
Watching Live Games
This one is pretty obvious; still, most soccer players rarely use it for increasing their skills while preparing themselves for a new position.
Better Example
To illustrate this better let me give you an example; if I want to increase my knowledge about left fullback I like to study professional players that are playing on same position. I also bring a notebook with me and write down things like;
- The position of the left fullback during defense/offense
- Marking
- Communication
Keep in mind that you should try to watch games with high quality and not some poor amateur division games. The reason is that players participating in them will rarely know what they are doing 🙂
Reading
If you want to learn more about a non-related soccer subject, what is the most natural thing to do? Well, walking to your library and hire a book of course.
I am sure that your local library will have at least one book that describes different positions and what you need to know in order to adapt yourself to them quickly.
Final Words
Always remember to practice often if you want to achieve higher results with your soccer game.
